Length

This lesson takes a little over 2 hours to complete. Students rotate through 5 Learning Centers and are allotted 20 minutes to complete the activity at each Center. In addition, a 30 minute class discussion about group discoveries takes place after all groups have completed the 5 Learning Center activities.

Lesson Summary

Students rotate through 5 Learning Centers in order to complete the following 5 activities containing information about Berkeley Springs.

  1. Activity 1 (Red): PowerPoint and worksheet on picture of Berkeley Springs.
  2. Activity 2 (Orange): Maps of the 1700's uses 3 maps (1747, 1755, and mid-1700s) to compare and use online tools
  3. Activity 3 (Yellow) George Washington's Diaries has students look and compare original diaries and translations.
  4. Activity 4 (Green) "A Summer in Bath" (from Travels in Virginia in Revolutionary Times) 3 pages
  5. Activity 5 (Blue): Winter Festival of Waters: A Local Legacy
