Workshop Structure:

Each workshop will follow a similar format. Workshops can be conducted in 2 to 3 hours.

  1. Pre-assessment: online survey
  2. Goals: Description of what participants should be able to understand, know, and do as a result of this session and expectation of performance tasks for participants. (5 min)
  3. Essential Question: and/or “Hook” activity (5-10 min)
  4. Participant Sharing: A variety of techniques will be used to briefly share the Lesson Plans implemented in the classrooms with each other. (15 min – only in 3 hour workshop series)
  5. Model activity: for the day’s topic. (20 min)
  6. Analysis of activity: and teaching strategy (15 to 30 min)
  7. Understanding performance:Brainstorm how this activity could be adapted for the classroom. (15 min)
  8. Break: (10 min)
  9. Connect to Library of Congress resources: Search strategy and then search or use the Library of Congress site for sources to implement a similar activity using a topic of current study in the classroom. Understanding performance: Search results. (25 min)
  10. Plan a Lesson Plan: (collaboration is encouraged). (25 min, 3-hour workshop)
  11. Assignments: for the next meeting. (5 min – only in workshop series)
  12. Questions and assessment of goals: (10 min)
  13. Closure activity: follow-up from the model activity (5 to 15 min)
  14. Evaluation: online survey
