Who put the Renaissance in the Harlem Renaissance?
Exploring African American culture in the 1920's

Connection

As we continue through this unit you will have many more activities to expand your understanding of the Harlem Renaissance which include reading literature written during and about the time period.

Consider these questions:

  • Do you feel a connection with any of the people you learned about?

  • Is there anyone you are curious to learn more about?

  • If you were going to write a poem as though you were a Harlem Renaissance poet, what would you write about?

  • Would you ever want to play blues or jazz music?

  • Do you think you can paint in the style of Harlem Renaissance artists?

  • Who put the renaissance in the Harlem Renaissance?
