Task 1: Calling All Sailors! Geography Pictionary

1. You will be assigned to a team of 3 students. Each of you will be given a role and a task sheet.

2. In the following task, you will be completing a picture dictionary, called a Geography Pictionary. Each team member is responsible for creating one page. The entire Geography Pictionary will be graded using the following rubric:

4. When everyone in your team is finished, go over each other’s work. Be sure to evaluate each page of your Geography Pictionary using the two rubric questions:

  • Are you satisfied with the number of entries completed?
  • Do the pictures match the definitions?

When you are satisfied with the complete Geography Pictionary, turn it in to your teacher and wait for your promotion to captain.

Task 2: Calling All Captains! Map Critics

Graphic of ship's captain.1. Congratulations on making Captain! Your next task is to decide, as a team, which of two cities is the best place to settle. Before you can make this important decision, you must research the buildings, transportation, capital and natural resources, landforms and water forms of each city. Each team member is responsible for part of the research.

2. Task 2 will be graded using the following rubric.

4. Once everyone in your group has completed their questions, ask your teacher for the Group Map Critic Task Sheet. You will now share what you learned about Stratford on Avon and Staunton by completing the Venn Diagram and two other questions. At the end of this task, you must decide where you would prefer to live and give three reasons of support.
